A limp Wales come to Dublin next week and there's great potential that the worst international football ever played will be staged. But perhaps we're looking at the glass half-empty. Over on the Football Top Tens blog, writer Ralph Hannah has spun the most recent Fifa rankings to benefit Ireland. If you look at every country in terms of population size - (population size/FIFA Ranking points), it turns out Ireland has the eighth-best team in the world. We bettered by Norn Iron and Montenegro, but it's nice to be eighth best at something. Here's the top ten football teams in the world per capita.
10 Denmark
9 Bosnia-Herzegovina
8 Republic of Ireland
7 Slovakia
6 Norway
5 Croatia
4 Uruguay
3 Northern Ireland
2 Slovenia
1 Montenegro
According to Ralph's research, Ireland is traditionally the third-best team in the world for population-size.
