Anthony Stokes' latest club is in Greece, having joined Apollon Smirnis after his contract at Hibs was terminated. Hopes that the Irishman might resurrect his career at the club have already hit the rocks, just four games in.
Stokes' first two games ended in defeat, but the latter two yielded victories to allow Apollon move out of the relegation zone. Such optimism has perished, however, as Stokes has failed to turn up for training this week.
Apollon manager Georgios Paraschos is quoted in the Daily Record:
Stokes has not appeared at training for the past three days. We will be seeking an apology. This is unacceptable.
We have had no explanation from him.
Stokes, who has yet to score for his new club, joined following his dismissal from Hibernian. In what was his third spell with the club, Stokes had angered manager Neil Lennon when they broke a curfew while in Portugal on a warm weather training camp. The trio failed to report back in time following a team meal and spent the remainder of the time in Portugal training on their own.
It was the second consecutive contract which has come to an early end for Stokes. He rejoined Hibs last August on a two-year deal after also departing Blackburn Rovers by mutual consent.
