Update: Taken to the cleaners or not, it seems Man United have now struck a deal with Monaco after the French Football Federation confirmed that Martial had left the French camp to sign a deal with United.

There was a point yesterday where Man United fans were beginning to worry about rumours that Charlie Austin was the striker that would take the goalscoring weight off Wayne Rooney's shoulders. Eventually it became clear that was just some nonsense taken from a fake twitter account but nonetheless it showed just how anxious fans are to see the Old Trafford club bring in a striker before tomorrow's deadline.

While Austin was never going to happen, a player that arrive in Manchester is Monaco's Anthony Martial. The 19 year old has jumped to the top of Man United's list after a number of other targets haven't worked out and Ed Woodward is currently in talks with the Ligue 1 side.

It seems a surprisingly large bid of €50 million (£36 million) has already been made but Monaco are holding out for significantly more.

The Times are now reporting that Monaco have set their demands at €60 million (£43.6 million) as well as Marcos Rojo on loan for a season. That is a truly staggering amount of money for a 19 year old who has yet to prove himself at any kind of decent level.

However, Man United find themselves in a very difficult position and the fact that time is running out on the transfer window may mean that this is one that could actually happen.
