'He will now always have on his CV that he was a failure at Man United.' That was Rio Ferdinand's verdict on Angel Di Maria's proposed move to PSG yesterday. That proposed move has now been confirmed by the player himself and we would suggest that he is probably not too worried by Ferdinand's comments.

The Argentine winger has been in Doha this week completing a medical ahead of a £44.3 million move to the French champions. It seems everything has gone well because, although neither club have yet confirmed the deal, Di Maria has given an interview to beIN Sports in which he stated he was now a PSG player.

I am very happy to join Paris St-Germain. They're very important.

They made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, so my objective was to arrive to Paris and to help them through the quarter-final barrier, because they have struggled in the past two seasons.

I will try to do the best I can to help the club in those objectives and reach the final stages of the Champions League.

It is interesting that Di Maria was widely tipped to move to the Ligue 1 side last summer before FFP regulations ensured that Man United were the only legitimate suitors. A British record £59.7 million deal was done with Real Madrid and everything looked set for Di Maria to become a Premier League star.

As we all know, that didn't happen and one year later, Di Maria is getting his move to Paris and PSG, for the hassle of having to wait a year, are also getting a significant discount.
