Liverpool are blessed with talented players all over the pitch, but there are few areas with more quality than at fullback. In Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, they have two of the premier names in world football in those positions.

Alexander-Arnold has earned a huge amount of plaudits over the last couple of years. His delivery into the box is almost unrivalled in the modern game, with the 23-year old racking up the assists as a result.

However, you could make an argument that Robertson is an overall better defender. He doesn't quite have his teammate's impact going forward, but he is much more solid defensively.

In fact, Gary Neville recently claimed that the Scot was the best fullback in the Premier League 'by a mile'.

The best full-back in the league by a mile - he does both things incredibly well, eight and nine, this is not Mr.Steady, eight and nines out of 10 every week.

Him down the left hand side when it matters, hurting, he is unbelievable. He does more than you know, obviously he’s been overshadowed at times by Trent, who has unbelievable delivery which is good to watch. But Robertson is the best full-back in the league by a mile.

Those comments sparked plenty of conversation at the time, apparently including inside the Liverpool dressing room.

Andy Robertson thrilled with Gary Neville comments

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night's Champions League final, Andy Robertson admitted that he has been quick to remind Trent Alexander-Arnold of Gary Neville's comments in recent days, much to the annoyance of his teammate.

I enjoyed it, that’s for sure! Trent’s not too happy! He gets enough praise probably.

I’ve used it with Trent for the last week, by saying ‘by a mile’ and things like that. I just keep saying it to him. I walk past and that’s all I need to say. He knows exactly what I’m talking about because I know he watched it.

That’s the relationship me and him have. It is somebody who played for Manchester United but, for me, he (Neville) was one of the best full-backs in the Premier League and to have someone like that saying that kind of took me back a bit. Obviously that kind of praise is always nice.

Trent obviously argues the ‘by a mile’ bit and the whole thing. You could fill this room with people who would say he is the best full-back by a mile. He is not short on that.

Trent’s stats are always better than mine so I try and keep him away from stats. Unfortunately he always knows the stats inside out. We wind each other up on a lot of things and he usually has the upper hand. I’ll take this one!

Considering that Alexander-Arnold receives the lion's share of attention out of the pair, Roberton will certainly enjoy this one.

Of course, they won't be too fussed which one of them is a better player if either of them can lead Liverpool to Champions League glory in Paris.
