The Irish footballing world was rocked this morning when it was revealed that Andy Reid had retired from football on his 34th birthday. Andy Reid's only 34? I know.

Still, the Dubliner was a hero. The magical left foot, his gift for music.

What was most unheralded was his ability not to laugh when all he wanted to do was burst out laughing at one of Risteard Cooper's funniest moments. Reid was appearing on Apres Match with Cooper, playing Des Cahill, remembering Italia 90 during the World Cup 1990.
