A major blast from the past has today thrown his hat into the ring to become Shamrock Rovers manager on a permanent basis.
Andrei Kanchelskis, best known for his time at Manchester United where he became one of the first foreign transfers to have a big impact on the Premier League, has expressed interest in managing in the League Of Ireland... And not for the first time.
Kanchelskis has offered his services for the position of Derry City manager towards the end of last season, but according to the Irish Mirror he wishes to be considered for Rovers boss this time around:
Andrei Kanchelskis has applied for the permanent Shamrock Rovers job.
The Manchester United legend wants to manage in Europe and sees Ireland as an ideal stepping stone.
The article continues to claim that he has a very slim chance of getting the position as the board have other targets in mind, and perhaps the Russian's previous record is the main stumbling block.
Most recently, Kanchelskis was sacked as manager of Russian third tier side Solyaris Moscow, and he had only occupied that position for four months. Hardly a glowing CV.
Still, it's Andrei Kanchelskis. Would he bring Lee Sharp as his assistant? No, but it would be funny to see purely for the 90s Premier League sticker album nostalgia.
Here's what he looks like these days, in case you were wondering.
Weird.
