Every aspiring poet's favourite ball player Andrea Pirlo has picked his all-time Champions League XI and unsurprisingly there's a distinct bias towards Serie A (most especially AC Milan) legends.
He's opted for a four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers in his line-up.
In goal, there was never any doubt that Gianluigi Buffon would get the nod. In defence, he seems to have picked three full backs, Maldini, Cafu and Phillip Lahm. Fabio Cannivaro completes a very Serie A heavy defence.
Like any self-respecting creative midfielder of many years standing, he has singled out Paul Scholes for special praise, sticking him in the centre of midfield
Here's his verdict on Scholesy.
The truly great English midfield player of the generation. Didn’t just play the game, he thought about the game. You could see every pass, every decision, was based on his intelligence and understanding.
Alongside him he has Xavi and every Italian's go-to grunter in midfield, Gennaro Gattuso (we learned that with Trap. Every Irish midfield player devoid of creativity, Trapattoni would compare to Gattuso).
Up front, he has Kaka, Messi and the most dubious and hometown pick of them all, Fillipo Inzaghi, the man who was born offside and has spent the greater part of his adult life offside.
