As backup plans goes, Andrea Pirlo is a pretty good one.

According to Spanish paper AS, following Xavi's decision to opt for Qatari side Al-Sadd, New York City FC will instead move for Andrea Pirlo and this Saturday's Champions League final will be the 36-year-old's final game for Juventus.

AS say that Pirlo has held talks with club CEO Ferran Soriano.

The Italian international would team up with Frank Lampard and David Villa at NYCFC. That's a contender for the greatest designated player trio ever in the MLS.
