Everyone's favourite footballer Andrea Pirlo has taken it upon himself to help save his former club Brescia, who languish in the middle of Serie B and are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Pirlo confirmed to a local Italian newspaper that he is trying to enlist the help of local businessmen to help the club financially but also later clarified that he wouldn't be investing his own money in the club:
I am suffering so much seeing the team I cheer on in such dire conditions. I spoke to important people, those who really mean something in this fight. You know much I care about Brescia, so I'm suffering to see the club I grew up in and the one I support in this situation.
I think I've done everything in my capabilities, speaking for a long time to those who are dealing directly with the situation. There will be further contact and I certainly won't give up the ghost now.
Football Italia also report that former Brescia player, Mr Divine Ponytail himself Roberto Baggio may get involved as a coach.
Expect Brescia's plight to be taken up by football hipsters and beard enthusiasts alike in the coming days.
