Laurence Heytesbury takes up where we left off..

I’m not going to say commiserations to Ireland as it’s a distant memory now and, also, I tried to be nice during the Spain game and I nearly got kicked around and then out of the pub.

Ireland’s exit also means that my Nightmare Scenario One has been avoided – Ireland beating England in the quarter-final with someone launching a future RTE pundit career with a sloppy goal after six minutes.

Nightmare Scenario Two was England getting whupped by Spain after everyone saying ‘Well, if Chelsea can beat Barcelona’, forgetting that Chelsea’s squad is worth GBP 250 million whilst England’s is made up of Liverpool reserves.

And so, Nightmare Scenario Three - losing to Italy on penalties after a tepid 1-1 draw. I think favourites to miss penalties this year have to be Milner and Lescott, unless Mr. Terry takes one for the team again.

I’ve actually decided to support Balotelli this weekend, this tournament is about individuals, not teams. Ronaldo, Balotelli, Roy Keane. Who cares what formation anyone is playing, let’s just go for it.
