Ally McCoist Completely Took The Piss Out Of Rodri Over Bitter Scotland Comments

Scotland pulled off a famous victory last night, defeating Spain 2-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifier at Hampden Park.

The Spanish were viewed as heavy favourites to win the group prior to the start of the campaign, and while many had tipped the Scots to finish second, few would have predicted the outcome of this game.

It's fair to say that the home side was helped by the team selection of their opponents. Spain took the rather odd decision to rest a number of their first choice players for the game, a call which certainly backfired.

They were fairly comfortably beaten, with Scott McTominay scoring both goals for Scotland.

It was a massive win for Steve Clarke's side, who are already in a very strong position to qualify after only two games.

On the other hand, it was a very frustrating evening for Spain. Once Scotland had taken the lead inside the opening ten minutes, they did their best to manage the game, wasting time and attempting to provoke their opponents.

This did not go down with Spanish midfielder Rodri, who told ViaPlay after the game that the approach the Scots employed 'was not football'.

It’s the way they play. You have to respect at the end but for me it’s a bit rubbish because it’s always wasting time. They provoke you and they always fall.

This for me is not football. For the speed of the sport you have to move on, but the referee has to take part in this and he says nothing.

It was frustrating because we want to win and it’s difficult because they waste time, waste time. But it is what it is. They have their weapons, we have to use our weapons and we will learn for the next time.

As you might have guessed, these comments have been well received in Scotland.

Ally McCoist laughs off Rodri's Scotland comments

Ally McCoist was in attendance at last night's game and was understandably in a jovial mood this morning on the back of the result.

When appearing on talkSPORT, he made sure to poke fun at Rodri over his bitterness after the loss.

I felt we were just a wee bit too physical for Rodri.

We were rubbish, was that the word he used? Bless his wee Spanish heart.

Classic McCoist.

Scotland will fancy their chances of qualifying from this group after that result. The other main contender for second place, Norway, could only muster a 1-1 draw in Georgia to follow up their 3-0 loss to Spain a few days previous, making the Scots big favourites to qualify.
