Ally McCoist has said Leigh Griffiths is a disgrace following the Celtic striker’s fitness issues.

The criticism comes after Celtic travelled to France last week ahead of the return of Scottish Football this weekend. However, Griffiths didn’t join the side on the trip with Lennon saying the Scottish forwards fitness levels to blame for his absence.

Commenting on the situation on BT Sport former Rangers boss Ally McCoist called Griffiths attitude “a disgrace” and said he has let Neil Lennon down after his manager showed so much faith in him.

Again, not for the first time. He’s let himself down. He’s let the Celtic fans down. And most importantly, the man who’s stood by him, he’s let Neil Lennon down.

It just absolutely baffles me that wee man. That wee man should be scoring goals for Celtic and playing in the Scotland team.

I do not understand it. I just think it was a disgrace the way he came back and wasn’t in a fit enough state to go with the rest of his teammates to France.

Social Media Nonsense

McCoist’s comments come after Sky reported last month that Neil Lennon said that bringing the Scottish forward on the trip would have been “absolutely pointless” and slammed the player for the “nonsense” he posts on social media.

He’s come back out of condition and overweight. Any physical work we asked him to do, he was coming out of saying he was injured. That’s going to be the case because he’s out of condition.

It would have been absolutely pointless bringing him with us. We had an extensive week in Loughborough and he wouldn’t have been fit to play the games here...

If he wants to have a future here at the club, it's down to himself. We're not prepared to do a lot more for him. Everything's there for him. He's let himself down and he's let us down.

However, Lennon has now said that he is happy with Griffith's current condition.
