There were some rather strange scenes in Dublin last night, with local confused after a number of flares were set off from the city's Millennium Bridge.
It made for some quite impressive scenery, with a number of red flares and fireworks being set off at the city centre location. However, the lack of official forewarning about the events led to some questions as to exactly what was taken place.
Anybody know where the flares came from in Central Dublin there? Like 10/20 landing on rooftops pic.twitter.com/XGvufpKY6O

It certainly looked like a celebration of some sort.
As it turns out, it all had to do with an Algerian football club.

Algerian football fans behind eye-catching scenes in Dublin last night
MC Alger are one of the most successful clubs in Algeria, winning eight league titles since their founding in 1921. That includes the 2023/24 edition of Ligue 1, their first triumph in that competition in 15 years.
They are among the most well supported teams in the African nation, having been the first Muslim club set up in the country. They are also the oldest side still part of the nation's top division.
Their fans were also behind last night's scenes in Dublin, with MC Alger supporters setting off flares to celebrate the 103rd birthday of the club.

While the celebrations in Dublin were eye-catching, they paled in comparison to the ones which took place in Algers itself.

Incredible stuff.
MC Algers will kick off their domestic season next month, where they will be hoping to win back-to-back league titles for the first time since 1979.
If last night's scenes were anything to go by, their will have no shortage of support in their quest to win the league title, including in Dublin.
