Ireland international Alex Pearce has made the move from Reading to Derby County on a free transfer.

The centre-back had been at Reading since 2001. He made his Ireland debut against Oman in 2012 and has amassed six caps in total.

Along with Darren Bent, Pearce is one of new manager Paul Clement's first signings.

Clement spoke to Derby County TV about the move.

Pearce told Derby's website that the ambition of the club was key in him making the decision and that after 14 years at Reading, he felt it was time to move on.

I have been at Reading for a long time, I have been there since I was 12-years-old, but there is always a time in your life when you have to move on with certain things and this is the time for me.

I need a fresh challenge and this with Derby is exactly what I’m looking for.
