After news emerged on Saturday evening that Alex Ferguson had been admitted to hospital for emergency surgery, the former Manchester United is said to be on the road to recovery.
Having missed his side's final game of the season against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, it has been reported that Ferguson's son (and the Doncaster Rovers boss) Darren was quizzed by Ferguson senior, "How did Doncaster get on?" upon waking up after his surgery.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United's trip to West Ham United tomorrow evening, Jose Mourinho stated that all involved with the club were confident that the former manager's recovery was going well - but he didn't wish to reveal too much detail out of respect for Ferguson's family:
It's private. His family ask for privacy and that's what I'm going to respect. We are positive, we are very, very positive.
We are confident [he will recover]. I can only think that if there is any relation [to the West Ham game] it is a positive relation.
Upon the breaking of the story on Saturday evening, Ferguson has been the recipient of innumerable good wishes from people all across the world of football.
Phil Jones, whom Ferguson signed for United as a 19-year-old from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, shared his feelings on what had occurred during the the same press conference.
Feeling "devestated" after hearing the news, Jones recalled how Ferguson had "taken me under his wing like a father" when he arrived at the club.
However, as with most trying to digest the news, Jones believes that Ferguson's "character ... that fight in him" will lead the former United manager to "recover well."
