Looking at England during Euro 2024, it's clear that Gareth Southgate could never quite identify a tactical system that made the most of the talented squad at his disposal.
Very few of England's best players performed to their peak levels in this tournament. The likes of Harry Kane, Phil Foden, and Jude Bellingham all looked like shadows of themselves in comparison to the form they produce at club level.
Some of that may be down to fatigue, but there is no doubt that they were not helped by the team's approach. That comes down to the manager.
There was certainly quite a contrast between the side's in last night's final, with Spain looking like a well-oiled attacking machine in comparison to their opponents.

Shearer: England Star Unhappy With Management In Euro 2024 Final
Jude Bellingham started Euro 2024 in magnificent fashion, scoring an impressive header to lead his team to a win over Serbia. However, that late equaliser against Slovakia aside, he did not have much of an impact at the tournament.
That was the case once again in the final, where the Real Madrid man had very little influence on the match as he started in an unfamiliar wide left role.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Alan Shearer suggested that Bellingham was clearly unhappy with the way the manager had used him against Spain.
Bellingham wasn't happy. He was stuck on the left again. You could tell he wasn't happy at all. He had a disappointed look about him, his arms were up, he was looking towards the bench for guidance.
He could see things weren't going well and he wasn't happy with the lack of press and everything else. He was showing all of those emotions. I could see it, I was looking at him all the time. He was showing it to the bench...
He's not a left midfielder is he so I sort of understood his emotions.
I was really surprised Gareth Southgate went back to four at the back. Our best 45 minutes of football in the whole tournament was when we played three at the back in the first half against the Netherlands.
I thought he would go for that system again. It's clear that [Phil] Foden and Bellingham don't want to play on the left in that system.
Bellingham certainly grew frustrated as the game went on, something that boiled over after the final whistle.
After the end of the game, he would take his frustrations out on a drinks cooler on the sideline.

Having failed to make much an impact on the game, he was clearly unhappy with how the Euro 2024 final had played out.
