The Australian cricket team have always been famous for 'sledging' or as former captain Steve Waugh termed it 'mental disintegration'.
A fine example of this was when wicket-keeper Ian Healy suggested to Shane Warne that a way get portly Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga out of his crease was to "put a Mars Bar on a good length". However their sledging techniques weren't a patch on former Ireland goalkeeper Alan Kelly who reduced a Liechtenstein player to rubble in their Euro qualifier in 1995.
(Liechtenstein's) one effort was in the 73rd minute. I had seen nothing of the ball and the lad came through on the corner of the box. He was absolutely shaking in his boots so when he got closer, I just went (throws out arms, screws up face and roars at top of voice) ‘WAAAAAAH!!!’ His knees were knocking and he was absolutely gone. He smashed it into me and I said, ‘thank you very much’.”
