Aiden McGeady is a much maligned figure in Irish football.
He's capable of producing moments of brilliance - see his game-winning performance against Georgia nearly 18 months ago - but also being incredibly frustrating and ineffective, mainly with his final product. He can get himself into great positions, but then send in a cross which leaves you wondering about his merits as a footballer.
Still, in an Irish squad which requires all its creative talent to be firing, we need McGeady playing football right now. That certainly is not happening at Everton. One appearance is all that he has made for the Toffees this season, and that came way back in August in the League Cup.
The possibility of moves to Celtic, Leeds and other Championship clubs have been mentioned throughout the transfer window. A move to Celtic would have been ideal for McGeady but his wages meant the move was never a goer for Ronny Deila's side.
According to The Guardian, McGeady could be set for a surprise move to Sevilla. The La Liga side are willing to meet the conditions set out by Everton for a loan move. Unai Emery is the current coach of Sevilla. He and McGeady worked together during the Spaniard's brief spell in charge of Spartak Moscow back in 2012.
With just days to go in the transfer window, it would certainly positive for Martin O'Neill to see McGeady, a player in whom he has show plenty of faith, getting some first team football.
