Aiden McGeady has signed for Championship club Charlton Athletic, joining on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The former Celtic winger has been at Sunderland since 2017, but the League One side were keen to clear his sizeable salary off their wage bill during this transfer window. With the player's contract expiring at the end of the season, it is likely we have seen the last of him in a Sunderland shirt.
Despite his club's keenness to move him on, McGeady has enjoyed a decent campaign. He has scored six goals and registered two assists in all competitions up to this point.

In Charlton, McGeady will join a club fighting towards the bottom end of the Championship. They have steadily slipped down the table after a strong start and currently sit in 21st place, four points above the relegation zone.
He will join fellow Ireland international Josh Cullen at The Valley, who is on a second consecutive season-long loan from West Ham. Norwich striker Adam Idah has also been linked with a temporary switch to the club.
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer told the club's website that he was delighted to get the signing over the line:
Bringing in someone with his quality is going to add to the squad. Last season we played against them obviously on three occasions and he’s an exceptional player.
He brings goals, he brings assists, he’s someone that can make something out of nothing.
He’s got experience, he’s played in Europe and for his country. We’re bringing in a very good, experienced player. Coming into the back end of the season experience can be important, Darren Pratley showed that in the play-off games last season.
McGeady will train with his new teammates today and will be available for tomorrow's game against Barnsley.
