Aiden McGeady started just four games for Everton last season as, despite a very positive start, he fell out of favour with manager Roberto Martinez.
The signing of Aaron Lennon in the January transfer window had a direct impact on McGeady's first team opportunities as the on-loan Spurs winger and Kevin Mirallas became the first choice wingers at the club, and although Lennon's loan did not involve an option to buy, it is believed that Martinez wishes to bring Lennon in on a permanent deal.
Despite the pursuit of Lennon, reports in Spain originating from Sport.es claim that Everton are poised to sign Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu for a cut-price €6m deal after the young Spaniard failed to impress in La Liga on loan at Sevilla last season, where he was even voted into Marca's "worst team of the season".
Deulofeu proved to be a massive hit with the Everton fans when he spent the 13/14 Premier League season on loan at Goodison Park, and Roberto Martinez is now looking to bring him in on a permanent deal, with a 3 year contract reportedly being offered.
Should Deulofeu sign it could mean that Aiden McGeady's first team opportunities will again be hampered, and if Aaron Lennon were to join as well then the Irishman would almost certainly need to move in order to find playing time.
