Manchester United's bright young thing Adnan Januzaj was the victim of a cheerily traditional kiss-and-tell over the weekend. It was a rather coyer than the usual Ashley Cole brand of kiss-and-tell, as student Melissa McKenzie objected not to his performance or non-performance in the bedroom but rather to his choice of restaurant and his overall cheapness on the date itself.
Apparently, instead of him arriving grandly up to her house in some flash, gaudy motor like any self-respecting footballer, it was she who had to pick him up from his mother's house before the pair proceeded to go to Nando's. Januzaj was dressed in his cleanest tracksuit top and bottoms. She had not banked on this.
When they parked, she had to pay and display, not the most romantic endeavor. In fairness to Januzaj he picked up the tab for the two chicken dinners they scoffed down. All the same, the 25 year old Melissa (Januzaj is 18, we'll leave it at that) was clearly unimpressed.
She confided all this to The Sun yesterday.
‘I’ve never met anyone so stingy in my life. I was so excited for the first date. We met on a social network site and I got all dressed up and even got my make-up done – costing me £30.
‘I expected him to come to me in a flashy car, but I ended up driving him about in my old blue Fiesta and I was left to pay and display. Then he said he was taking me to Nando’s – my face fell.
Renowned penalty misser, Jason Puncheon has praised Januzaj for "keeping it real" on instagram. (see above)
She feels cheated by the whole experience of "going on a date with a Man United footballer." It was evidently not what she was expecting. But then a lot has changed at United recently.
UPDATE
Guess who's after getting a voucher...
Hey Adnan, the second date’s on us. (P.S. Maybe ditch the trackies?) #AdNandos pic.twitter.com/6P7MIdOnl7
