German sportswear giant adidas have been providing quality sportswear for over 60 years and through the amazing adidas archive, they've decided to show off some of their vast, vast collection of runners, jerseys, adverts and most importantly for this article, catalogues. Among the scanned catalogues is this gem from adidas Ireland from 1972.
The catalogue has the usual mix of football boots as worn by "Irish international players."
Not forgetting rugby boots worn by "nearly all rugby players participating in the 5 nations tournament."
But our favourite adidas Ireland ad is this lovely pic of a cailín with a harp and a sports bag.
Yes that really does say, 'whether you play football or the harp, an adidas bag suits the part'. Marketing genius.
You can check out the archive yourself at the links above for other catalogues. It really does contain everything from porn for football hipsters...
To well, eh, um, eh, other pics that are, um, different. When men were men and models were hairy.
We'll leave the last pic though to the only runners/trainers/sneakers that any self-respecting casual in the west of Ireland would ever wear.
The adidas archive contains plenty of multimedia exhibits including advertisements for TV in a variety of countries as well as personalised memorabilia from adidas's vast stable of 'heroes' (ie the people they still want to be associated with). A true treasure trove for sportswear connoisseurs.
