Norwich City manager David Wagner has been speaking about letting Adam Idah move to Celtic on loan.
The Republic of Ireland forward has joined Celtic until the end of the season, having seen his first-team opportunities dwindle at Carrow Road in recent months.
For an Irish lad, the chance to join the Glasgow giants doesn't come along every day so it's understandable that Idah pushed for the move when it became apparent that he was wanted at Celtic Park.
It seems like the loan will suit all parties, with Wagner making his feelings clear that he didn't want Idah around if his heart was elsewhere. The Canaries have replaced Idah with Sydney van Hooijdonk, the son of former Celtic striker Pierre, on loan from Bologna and Wagner has stated that has described this as the "perfect scenario".
David Wagner explains Adam Idah exit
"We have to say after Adam made his point clear that he likes to go on loan, for me, what was clear, that when we can find an alternative it makes no sense to keep someone who is desperate to go on loan," the German coach told The Pink Un after his side's 2-1 win over Coventry City on Saturday.
"At the right moment I backed this because our aims and targets are too high and we have to have a group who's committed 100pc.
“The chance popped up quite late to get maybe Sydney on loan, and then with an option to buy as well, so it was the perfect scenario.
“I got Adam’s point. And this is why I backed this decision. Even if I would have been fine if he wanted to stay and fight for his spot. I want players desperate to be here and to push for our highest target, and for this everyone’s mind has to be right. And now we know which group we have together.
Adam Idah making fresh start at Celtic
Idah made his Celtic debut as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw at Aberdeen on Saturday. While he didn't find the net, there will be plenty more opportunities for him to do so.
From the sound of Wagner's comments, the pair may find it tough to work together again, although given the quick turnaround of managers Championship, it's not guaranteed that Wagner will be there upon Idah's return this summer.
In any case, Idah has been at Norwich since he was a youth player, and a long-term change of scenery might do him good.
