In news that makes the appointment of Micky Adams look humdrum, the Daily Mirror brings us the sensational scoop that Andrei Kanchekskis wants to become manager of Derry City.
Derry are casting around for a permanent boss following the sacking of Peter Hutton last month, and the Ukranian (ex)speedster applied for the position yesterday.
His ultimate aim is to manage in England. It is understood that he regards Derry as a stepping stone.
While his playing exploits are well known - as are the efforts of his agents to get him away from Old Trafford - his managerial career has been less stellar.
His most recent gig was with Latvian side FC Jurmala, a club where he spent four months. It was long enough to set them on the road to relegation, the second of his managerial career.
Perhaps, Derry would well advised to look beyond their most left-field applicant.
