After years of waiting in vain for someone to say nice things about Massimo Cellino on the internet for free, the club decided they were going to have to pay someone to do the job.
In the competition to find the most ludicrous and unnecessary job in sport, the position of 'Ryder Cup vice-captain' has long been the outstanding candidate.
However, it has come under threat today with the claim from Leeds United fan Scott Gutteridge that the club paid him £500 to compliment the owner on facebook.
Gutteridge told the Daily Mail that he was drafted in to assist with the creation of a group called 'In Massimo we trust'.
I was approached because of my IT/website design background by an unnamed member of Leeds United to assist in the creation and running of a group called Cellino In (now known as In Massimo We Trust).
I was told I would receive a nominal payment depending on activity and contribution. It balanced out at £500 per month.
The club felt that a positive influence from a small number of fans could go a long way and sponsoring this group would be worth their time.
He was subsequently banished from the inner sanctum of IMWT because he was allegedly leaking information. The club officially rejected the claims but the Mail asserts that a number of other 'Leeds sources' backed up the claims of the fan.
We do not endorse this kind of skullduggery and shameless manipulation of public opinion. Having said that, Massimo Cellino is a lovely man with a high degree of integrity and a nice face.
