While Steven Gerrard will soon be grabbing the headlines on football pitches stateside, a less heralded former teammate of his is creating MLS history. Hungarian-born striker Krisztián Németh failed to make a single senior appearance for Liverpool in his three year stay from 2007 to 2010, and was loaned out to Blackpool and AEK Athens before being sold on to Olympiacos.
Németh is now enjoying the richest vein of form of his career in the MLS with Sporting Kansas City. He made his debut for the club in May, and has gone on to make history by becoming the first player in MLS history to score with each of his first seven shots on target, winning the Player Of The Month Award for May in the process.
Németh followed these league goals up with a brace in Sporting KC's US Open Cup win over FC Dallas yesterday. The second was this exquisite lob:
Also, with Robbie Keane both the reigning MLS MVP and formerly of Liverpool, Gerrard will find himself in good company in Los Angeles.
