Former Celtic midfielder Evander Sno will appear in court in Holland next week having been accused of attempted manslaughter. Sno has denied the manslaughter accusation, calling it "exaggerated".
The accusation relates to an incident in Amsterdam in 2013 when two people were allegedly kicked in the head. Sno has been accused along with two relatives, Kenneth and Petro Sno. They will appear in court on March 9.
Such was the ferocity of the attack, the Amsterdam Public Prosecution has accused the men with attempted manslaughter, a charge which Sno strongly denies, as he told Dutch newspaper AD:
Attempted manslaughter is greatly exaggerated.
They make it really much larger and heavier than it was. There was a scuffle involving acquaintances who were with me.
I said 'Hey boys, this is not necessary,' then I was hit so I defended myself. But, I've certainly didn't kicked anyone as they lay on the ground.
I don't know the victims, I do not even know what that quarrel was about. They made it a big issue because I'm a football player. They call it already attempted manslaughter. But I have not even kicked when they were on the ground.
Sno is currently unattached, and has had his career ruined by serious health issues. He has suffered two cardiac arrests, with Ajax in 2010 and NEC Nijmegen in 2012.
