Birthday boy Ronaldo may have broken up with long term girlfriend Irina Shayk recently, but that doesn't mean that things are all doom and gloom for him. The University of British Columbia - Okanagan is offering a sociology course all about him.
Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Sweden in the away leg of the World Cup Qualifier playoff against Sweden, ensuring in the process that Portugal were going to the World Cup that summer in Brazil. Professor Luis Aguiar was watching the Portuguese broadcast of that game and after hearing how the commentators were describing Ronaldo and what he meant for the country he decided on running the sociology module.
According to students, Ronaldo's stature as a cultural phenomenon is used to analyse and de-construct what it means to be a cultural citizen. Professor Luis Aguiar says
"Ronaldo is the center and every discussion, class meeting revolves around Ronaldo initially. And then we explore, we broaden out to larger themes. So it starts with Ronaldo but Ronaldo is almost like a springboard to talk about larger issues that are much more sociologically significant than just a biography of Ronaldo."
Sounds like something CR7 could definitely get on board with. Although Luis is not sure whether he is aware of the course, he would love for him to perhaps one day join in a class via Skype.
Here's hoping that some Irish college professor has similar plans to run a course on the almighty Zlatan.
