AC Milan are planning a move away from their iconic San Siro stadium. Following in the footsteps of Juventus they are looking to down size and hope to profit from the greater share of gate receipts from a private ground. Apparently the stadium took its inspiration from the Emirates in London and similar stadiums in Bilbao and Basel, although we can't help but think that it looks light something we stuck together as 3 year olds.
The hope is that they will be able to create a decent atmosphere in a full 48,000 seater stadium as opposed to the echoes that are heard around their current home that seats 80,000 but is never anywhere near full.
It is hoped that it will be completed in time for the beginning of the 2018-19 season and will be situated two-and-a-half miles from the San Siro. The club are looking to build a hotel, sports college and restaurants in the Portello area of the city which is currently undergoing re-development. The proposed cost is over the €300 million mark and final approval is expected in March.
