Irish international Jeff Hendrick was arrested, by appointment, by Gardaí last week in relation with an alleged assault that took place in October 2013.
The Indo reports that Hendrick was released without charge, however statements are being prepared for the DPP so there could yet be charges. He went on to star in Derby's FA Cup win over Chestefield last Saturday.
Hendrick was one of four arrested in connection with the incident, which apparently occurred after a nightclub argument spilled out onto the street. The case is also the subject of civil proceedings in the high court, meaning Hendrick could yet have to pay compensation to the claimaint.
He becomes the latest Irish international to be arrested in similar circumstances. Anthony Stokes faces trial for an alleged assault of an Elvis impersonator in Buck Whaley's nightclub.
Hendrick has been a consistent squad choice of Martin O'Neill and looks set to become a mainstay of Irish teams for years to come. His Derby side, for which he has three goals and four assists this season, currently sit in the automatic promotion places so we will hopefully see yet another Irish international in the Premier League next season.
