7 Times When Martin Tyler Totally Lost The Plot During Commentary

Manchester United vs Liverpool was no doubt the biggest Premier League match of the weekend.

After arguably one of the poorest first-half displays in the history of this prestigious fixture, the second half was action packed. Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler and his instantly recognisable voice were in charge of talking those who watched on TV through the game, and moments after Christian Benteke caught him off guard with a Goal Of The Season contender, he full-on celebrated Anthony Martial's debut goal which killed the game off at 3-1.

Now, Tyler has taken a lot of stick online for appearing to be happy with Manchester United scoring and failing to remain neutral, but his history of being unable to compose himself for big moments in football suggest that he was merely thrilled with the story unfolding in front of his eyes, that of a kid who's had to put up with a lot of nonsense without having kicked a ball for United suddenly morphing into Theirry Henry and scoring a crucial goal.

To remind you that Martin Tyler isn't a Man United fan, he's just a really REALLY enthusiastic guy, here are 7 times when Martin Tyler lost the plot during commentary.

Ohh... YYYYYYESS!!

Welcome to Manchester United, Anthony Martial. It certainly was surprising, but Martin Tyler was clearly reading all those terrible "Footy Banter" pages in the run up to this game who brought up Martial's lack of senior goals before his move to Old Trafford. Great for United fans, humerous for the neutral.. Liverpool fans were less than impressed.

AGUEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

We couldn't start anywhere else. One of the most iconic moments of commentary ever, Martin Tyler's eruption as Sergio Aguero clinched Man City's first ever Premier League title win with a last second goal has since gone on to become an advert for Sky and a tattoo for a few thousand City fans.

..Looks for ArshAVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNN!

In February 2011, Arsenal came from behind to beat Barcelona 2-1 in the first leg of their last 16 match, and Martin got quite excited as that strange little Russian finished off a flowing Arsenal move. Grand scheme of things it meant nothing, as Barcelona won in the Nou Camp and progressed at Arsenal's expense.

DROGBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! (ft. Gary Neville)

When Didier Drogba popped up equalise for Chelsea against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, the commentary team for Sjy Sports News lost it. They must have known what was going to come, as the Blues went on to win on penalties.

RissEEEEEAAAAHHHHHH! Goodness gracious me!

Nobody could release the kracken like Jon Arne Risse, and Martin absolutely loved this thunderbastard of a free-kick. Bonus points for calling him Jon with a soft J... Yon Arne Riise.

For JIIIII... He's round the goalkeeper.. HE'S DONE ITTT!!

Ji Dong-Won isn't the most memorable Premier League player to make Martin Tyler lose the run of himself, but he did get two roars out of the veteran commentator. A late goal to hand title-contending City a loss was enough for Martin to raise the roof twice in a matter of seconds.

Great turn by MacheDAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAA!

Easily the funniest one on this list, and one Tyler probably won't be proud of, is one of the most celebrated voice-cracks in commentary history. Nobody saw this goal coming, so Tyler was well and truly caught off guard, but it sounded like someone poured an ice-cold bucket of water down his back as he started saying Macheda. Hilarious.
