With Manchester United clearly struggling to find a midfield pairing that works, it's looking more and more bizarre that Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger has been completely eliminated from the discussion.
Granted, it's the manager's decision and the hoopla around the "humiliation" he caused to Schweinsteiger was over the top, but it does seem odd that Mourinho has decided that Bastian can simply no longer play football.
But what has Schweiny been up to in the couple of months where he has been given an advanced preview of what retirement looks like?
Judging by his social media accounts.. He's doing grand. Having a bit of a laugh and still showing support for Manchester United.
Reflecting on happier times...
Remember when he played a vital role in a World Cup win roughly 15 months ago?
Getting really, really into a mobile game called Clash Of Kings.
Cosplay. He's so bored he's turned to cosplay. Sweet suffering Jesus. (We're aware it's an ad)
Hitting the gym.
The pace may be gone, but he's got time to stengthen other areas.
Wearing comically large scarfs...
Look at what you have done to him, Mourinho.
Having lunch with his pals from Bayern.
Presumably the United boys were at training.
Appreciating the English Autumn.
Still showing support for Manchester United.
You've got to hand it to him, he has dealt with this situation, at least publicly, with total class.
Why not give him a game Jose?
