Gameweek One is in the books for the new Fantasy Premier League season, and for the majority of us that means it's time to consider playing the wildcard after it went so horribly, horribly wrong.
Most managers created numerous drafts for their final squad in the build-up to last weekend's deadline, by tinkering around with numerous options and then scrapping the idea later that same night, but the following are players who largely were completely overlooked.
Despite that, these players did the business in week one and now it's time to try and work them into your team. We've also dedicated a segment of our Fantasy Football Podcast to the rise and fall of players' stock over the season so be sure to tune in regularly.
Marc Albrighton - Leicester City - £5.0m
At just £5.0m, Marc Albrighton's impressive finish to last season should have been taken into account by more FPL managers. He bagged 15 points along with teammate Riyad Mahrez, and looks to be a starter going forward. Leicester's unpredictability with a new manager will have been a big reason for overlooking him, but he could save you some money.
Joe Gomez - Liverpool - £4.6m
One of the few fantasy players who have already seen a rise in price, Joe Gomez wasn't expected to be Liverpool's starting left-back this season, but if he continues the form he showed on his Premier League debut, he will probably be given the job permanently.
Yaya Toure - Man City - £8.5m
It may seem ridiculous, but even at only £8.5m, Yaya was selected by just 7% of fantasy teams. This is laregly due to a dip in form last season and him looking destined for the exit door at City, but he's staying, and he's started strong with two goals in his first match. The return of Yaya at that price is mighty tempting.
Reece Oxford - West Ham - £4.0m
Unless you were a West Ham fan or a listener of the Balls.ie Fantasy Football Podcast, you would not have predicted Reece Oxford becoming the second youngest ever player in the Premier League against Arsenal. Listed as a defender, Oxford played in midfield and looked comfortable, and at £4.0m he is the cheapest possible defender, so he's good value for penny pinchers.
Gabriel Obertan - Newcastle - £4.5m
You would have had absolutely no good reason for wanting Gabriel Obertan in your team if, you know, you watch football. But Steve McClaren fancies the oddly shaped head of Obertan and after he delivered THE perfect cross for Wijnaldum's goal against Southampton, maybe you should too.
Mauro Zarate - West Ham - £5.5m
After a turbulent time with QPR, most Premier League fans perhaps expected Zarate to again not play much part, but he took his chance at the Emirates for West Ham and now looks to have the starting job to lose. A very talented player, if he gets a run of games and has his confidence up, he could be an absolute snip at £5.5m.
Rudy Gestede - Aston Villa - £6.0m
It's always weary taking a striker who's made the jump from the Championship to the Premier League, but Rudy Gestede replaced Christian Benteke in the Villa lineup and made an impact straight away with a game-winning goal against Bournemouth. He'll be starting, and with Villa's fondness for a cross and his excellent heading ability, he's value at £6.0m.
