On this day 25 years ago Michael Thomas sent the red half of North London into raptures - his injury time winner against Liverpool at Anfield proved just enough to secure Arsenal's first league title in 18 years.
Typically the memory of Michael Thomas' deft finish - and subsequent ridiculous euphoric tumble - has brought on an onslaught of nostalgia; taking us back to a time when the back-pass was an integral part of the game, and celebrations were less varied and more two-armed and jumpy.
His late winner is truly one of the greats, and has provided the inspiration for this list of some great late winners you may have forgotten.....
1 - Michael Thomas - Our Muse And Inspiration.
We've pretty much covered this one; a move beginning with a beautifully executed pass-back, was quickly turned into attack - that put Michael Thomas through on goal; he poked the ball past Bruce Grobelaar, whipping the travelling Arsenal fans into a frenzy.
2 - Jimmy Glass - 1999 - Carlisle vs Plymouth Argyle
A dramatic late winner that perfectly encapsulates the cliched fairytale ending. On-loan goalkeeper Jimmy Glass scores the goal; hailed as arguably the most important in Carlisle's history with ten seconds left on the clock.
3 - 1993 - Emil Kostidanov vs France USA 94 Qualifier
France needed only a draw to qualify for the 1994 World Cup, Bulgaria had to win. The game was tied 1-1 when in the 89th minute. After a wildly over-hit David Ginola cross, up stepped Emil Kostadinov. With seconds remaining on the clock, he smashed in the winner to prevent an incredibly strong French team from qualifying for the 94 World Cup.
4 - Nayim - Real Zaragoza 1994 vs Arsenal - UEFA Cup Winners Cup
Arsenal fans will not look upon this one fondly, Nayim's game-winning screamer in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup is an iconic moment. With the game heading for penalties Nayim decided he didn't want to play extra time, so he lobbed David Seaman from 40 yards. Nayim had played for five seasons at Tottenham previous to this wonder strike, which definitely made it all the sweeter.
5 - Costinha vs United 2004 - Champions League Semi-Final.
In 2004, a certain Jose Mourinho announced himself to the English public with a manic touch-line dash at Old Trafford to congratulate his players after Francisco Costinha's injury-time goal had knocked United out of the Champions League. Benni McCarthy scored twice in the previous leg, so a draw was all that Mourinho needed. He got just that in the return leg; eventually winning the whole thing.
6 - Iniesta vs Chelsea 2009 - Champions league Semi Final.
Despair in a football match cannot come more acutely. Barcelona beat Chelsea in the third minute of stoppage time to seize a place in the Champions League final against Manchester United with their sole shot on target. The strike into the top corner by Andrés Iniesta was exquisite and brought triumph on the away-goals rule.
