Earlier this month, Roddy Collins brought Luton Town manager John Still to the FAI Cup Final at Lansdowne Road to scout players. Collins claimed, while speaking to Sean O'Rourke on RTÉ, that the English League Two manager told him that not one of the players on the pitch that day had the quality to play for his side.
They’re going to move up another level; they’re going to win the league, and I felt, ‘This is the level where you’re going to get players. And at the end of the game he said to me … ‘There’s not one of those players would get into my team’. That was disappointing for me, and that’s an expert opinion. So, you know, we’re a little bit deluded.
In his column in The Irish Daily Star, Collins seems to have done a bit of backtracking on who actually said the players were not good enough.
I said then and I repeat it, most of those on view are not good enough for John’s team.
The former Derry City manager also claimed that three Airtricity League players have asked him to "get them 'fixed up' with Luton".
