This holiday season, spend your TV time by catching up with the very best Sports TV series that you can binge on while you recover from the Christmas dinner, or the following week of turkey-based meals.
These Sports TV series have been around for a while, so if you haven't gotten around to watching them yet, then no more excuses, the time is now.
Here are 5 of the very best TV Sports series for you to binge-watch over the holiday season.
Blue Mountain State
BMS is an utterly ridiculous college football comedy that crams every imaginable US college stereotype into 3 seasons of 25 minute shows, and does it with hilarious results.
Thad Castle is as memorable a TV character as you are likely to come across, and the constant battle between a college party lifestyle and the pressures of competitive American football make for some brilliant, and completely insane, storylines.
Available on Netflix.
Friday Night Lights
If the sheer ridiculousness of Blue Mountain State isn't your thing, then enjoy a sports drama in Friday Night Lights, which is the best sports related television show ever. There, I said it.
If you like sports and haven't watched Friday Night Lights, what the hell have you been doing with yourself? I had heard how good it was from people harping on about it, but until I gave in and decided to give it a watch, I didn't understand just how bloody good it is.
Gripping drama, incredible sports scenes, plot twists and pit-falls, FNL has it all, and you absolutely need to see it. If you have seen it, then maybe you will enjoy our power ranking of the best characters as a consolation prize.
Available on Netflix.
Renford Rejects
Why not stuff your Christmas full of nostalgia this year?
Renford Rejects is a Nickelodeon kids tv show from the 90s that most young lads in Ireland and the UK at the time absolutely loved. Thankfully, one absolute hero of a man has upload every single episode on to YouTube (we'll leave the link below) so you can literally fly through the entire thing uninterrupted if you so wish (don't do that).
It's low budget, the jokes are cheesy, the same songs get used over and over again, but Renford Rejects is a fantastic blast from the past for anyone who enjoyed it when they were younger, and if that doesn't interest you, well maybe our list of our favourite footballer cameos from the show, such as Gianfranco Zola & Martin Keown, may make you change your mind.
Here is the link to all the episodes on YouTube. Jon Lamacraft, you are a king among men.
Eastbound & Down
Danny McBride's portrait of baseball burnout Kenny Powers is the stuff of comedic genius. The show consistently delivers laughs as the once great Powers attempts to make a return to the top of his sport.
Great writing, brilliant cameos, four seasons of pure hilarity. This is another show you really should have watched already, but in case you didn't, there is no better time to blast through every episode.
Available on Netflix.
The League
One of the most successful American comedy shows in recent years is The League, which centres around a group of friends competing in a fantasy football league.
The constant bickering and belittling that makes casual competition between friends far more serious than it should be is perfectly represented as each character plots and plans the downfall of his so called friends. The cameos from actual NFL players are a nice bonus, as is any time Jon Lajoie has a musical moment.
The League isn't for everyone, but it is a well written comedy about fantasy sports, so you'll probably like it if you haven't already given it a chance.
