Ireland took on USA in a friendly at the Avaya Stadium in San Jose on Sunday night.

The US showed no mercy in scoring their opening goal of the game. A corner from the left nearly ended up in the back of the Irish net for an own goal. Meabh De Burca on the line prevented the concession, briefly, though it did cause her considerable pain. Obviously worried for her teammate and possibly expecting the referee to halt play, Ireland goalkeeper Niamh Reid Burke stopped playing and attended to De Burca.

The USA did not stop playing though and the ball eventually fell to the feet of Abby Wambach who slotted home her 179th international goal.

The game finished 3-0 to the home side.
