Steven Gerrard Is Going To Be On More Money Than Robbie Keane But Less Than Kaka

It's seem that all that's left for Steven Gerrard to do is sign on the dotted line with the MLS and head on over to LA Galaxy in June as soon as his Liverpool contract is up. Gerrard's stateside move now looks certain to be to the west coast to team up with Robbie Keane at the Galaxy after BBC today reported the news.

But the big question remains, how much is Gerrard going to earn. According to most estimates, Gerrard is currently on somewhere in the region of £140,000 a week at Anfield. There were suggestions that Liverpool wanted him to half that if he were to sign an extension beyond the end of this season.

However, if BBC are to be believed, his basic MLS contract will see him earn roughly £6 million for his duration of a year and a half long contract. That breaks down to £4 million for the year and £76000 per week, something which adds credence to Gerrard's assertions that he is leaving for game time and not money.

The MLS and their peculiar contract system (to European football eyes) is disclosed by yearly salary and according to the Washington Post, the big earners in the league are as follows.

So, Gerrard will potentially be earning less than Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey, but more than Robbie Keane and Tim Cahill. It's also interesting to note that David Villa is officially listed as earning all of £60,000 yearly salary from the MLS, adding fuel to the obvious fire of Man City's questionable involvement with New York City. Frank Lampard's official salary (if he ever makes it to America) has not been disclosed.
