Yesterday, Adam Johnson was charged with three offences of sexual activity with a child under 16 years old, plus one offence of grooming. Today, all eyes were on Sunderland to see what action they would take in relation to the matter.
Despite calls to do so, the club have decided not to suspend the winger with Johnson available for selection to help Sunderland in their fight against relegation.
It must be remembered that Johnson has been charged with the crime and has not yet been found guilty. However, the fact that the club have chosen to allow him to continue represent the club while the justice process is underway has been criticised by many.
Johnson charged with sexual activity with an underage girl, NOT suspended by SAFC. Relegation fight more important, then. Football...

When Johnson was arrested, SAFC suspended him. Now charged, but free to play?? Innocent until proven, absolutely. But what message is this?

That Sunderland's decision not to suspend Adam Johnson doesn't even cause great shock is a pretty f**king sad indictment.

I wonder if Adam Johnson would have been suspended if Sunderland were safely mid table or he wasn't one of their better players?

Sunderland keeping playing Johnson is shameful. Would he be anywhere near the ground if they were safe in mid-table? Hope they go down.

Johnson not suspended! Very surprised at that. I bet if it was a fringe player things would be different #safc #desperation

Just seen the news that #SAFC will NOT be suspending Adam Johnson after yesterdays charges. Wow, hang your head in shame.

Not sure I agree with the club's stance on #Johnson , I know he's not guilty of anything yet, just doesn't sit right with me. #safc

Johnson will be available for selection against Stoke tomorrow and it will certainly be a peculiar situation for many Sunderland fans.
