If you are football fan, then you are also an Andrea Pirlo fan. Nobody wants to see the man retire. At the 35, no doubt he has miles on the clock, but given his languid, efficient style, he may plan on for years to come.
Someone who thinks that the great man can play until he is at least 40 and maybe even longer is his former teammate Mauro Camoranesi. The Argentinian-born Italian international was speaking about Juventus' second-leg Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund next week when he was asked about Pirlo.
Camoranesi praised Pirlo but also damningly commented on the current state of Italian football.
Pirlo? Andrea is unique, and to have him back for Dortmund would be essential. Having him on the pitch shifts the balance.
Sometimes I hear criticism against him and I laugh. Pirlo can never be a problem, he solves problems.
I was convinced that Pirlo could play until he’s 40, but given the current level of Italian football he can play until he’s 50 or 53. I don’t see anyone around with his quality or intelligence.
