It's that time of year again. The time when those transfer gossip inclined sheepishly log on to BBC Football for the wonder of transfer related collation that is the gossip column. Sometimes outlandish, sometimes rage inducing but never boring, the gossip column never fails to surprise and so it proved once again.

Spare a thought for Liverpool fans this cold December morn because this is what greeted them courtesy of the Daily Star.

Liverpool plot SENSATIONAL move to re-sign Chelsea flop Fernando Torres

Yes, that's right, one time Kop hero turned footballing pariah of anywhere that wants to actually see the net bulge, El Nino, is coming home, and no we don't mean Atletico. The Daily Star have raised the bar early in terms of 'never going to happen' transfer with this peach.

They reference unnamed reports in Spain that say Torres will have his loan at AC Milan cancelled after just one goal in ten Serie A appearances and that Jose Mourinho and Chelsea will then allow the £50 million man to leave for nothing.

Cue Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool swooping in to sign the 30 year old to solve their goalscoring woes. Sure, that seems likely.

Having said all that we would happily be left with egg on our face if this did happen, just to see what would come of it.
