Adam Johnson Charged
Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has been charged with three counts of sexual activity with an underage girl, and one count of sexual grooming. The England winger arrived at Peterlee Police Station today to answer the bail, and has been charged.
Johnson will now appear at Peterlee Magistrates Court on May 20th.
A statement from Durham Police said:
Adam Johnson, a professional footballer aged 27 from Castle Eden, County Durham has this afternoon been charged with three offences of sexual activity with a child under 16 years old, plus one offence of grooming.
Police arrested Johnson on March 2nd at his home on suspicion of sexual activity of an underage girl. Johnson was initially suspended by his club, but has returned to play for Sunderland since.
