There has been another twist in the Leeds United takeover plans.
Just days after Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino claimed that the club had received a bid from Red Bull, the energy drinks giant has moved to distance themselves from any comments from Cellino and ruled out a takeover bid.
Cellino made the claim to the Yorkshire Evening Post on Friday that there was a bid in, and he claimed it was from Red Bull:
There is an offer. I didn’t know about it but I spoke just now with Giampaolo Caboni, one of the directors of Eleonora Sport. He said Red Bull has made an offer for the club.
However, the head of global football marketing for Red Bull - Oliver Mintzlaff - countered this claim saying that:
Another involvement in football is not planned.
This throws further doubt onto Leeds after a decade of hurt and misery. It remains to be seen what happens when Cellino's ban expires, or whether the rumours of a club takeover that have arisen since his ban will follow through.
