You would have seen the shocking footage of Igor Akinfeev being hit by a flare thrown from the crowd during last night's game between Russia and Montenegro.
The game was suspended while medics took care of Akinfeev. The Russian keeper was taken to hospital, and the good news is that he is expected to be fit and available for his club CSKA Moscow for their game against Zenit next week.
The game resumed after Akinfeev was taken to the hospital, but the referee took the decision to abandon the game with 23 minutes left after another object hit Russia’s Dmitri Kombarov. The score stood at 0-0, but the Russian FA are demanding that they are awarded a victory.
One Montenegrin fan was very close to the guilty party and happened to be taking a video of the incident. It shows how boisterous the crowd was beforehand, and from a distance of ten people you can see the trajectory of the flare, and the subsequent anger of the crowd towards the individual.
