It's official, three-time winner of the FIFA World Player of the year Ronaldo is coming out of retirement. Not the Portuguese sensation that is currently vying for the mantle as the best player in the world, but the two-time winner of the World Cup - Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, to give his full name - from Brazil.

The 38 year old Brazilian legend originally retired in 2011 citing pain and hypothyroidism, but now plans to resurrect his career by playing for the team he has some ownership in - the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Ronaldo has confirmed that he will now play, and is targeting his return for the end of season playoffs in the North American Soccer League (NASL).

It's going to happen. I have already said so. But it's going to be a bit later, in the play-offs.

Ronaldo bought a minority share in the Florida based team last December, and it didn't take him long to think about lacing up his boots again. It may take until November for American fans to see Ronaldo grace the pitch again, but for now he is targeting losing weight to be able to play.

Fort Lauderdale Strikers play in the 11 team NASL in America, which acts as the second division of the MLS. The NASL has two split seasons - from April to June, and then again from July until November, which is when the playoffs start.
