Earlier today you may have read the surprising news that Paul Gascoigne had received a significant amount of financial support from Arsenal over the past 10-15 years. In an interview with the Sun, Gazza was less than complimentary about his old club, Tottenham, while simultaneously praising Arsenal for the help they have given him.
However, this evening, the Independent are reporting that Gazza has clarified those comments during an interview with Reuters. Unsurprisingly, it seems his comments have not gone down well at White Hart Lane and he has recanted his early statement by saying it is Spurs who are most to thank regarding his ongoing treatment.
I want to correct comments quoted in The Sun this morning - I have ended up thanking the wrong people and causing upset - never my intention. The ones who have funded my treatment over many years and have always been there for me are Tottenham Hotspur and their Tribute Trust.
The earlier Sun report did mention Gary Mabbutt's help and Gascoigne has expanded upon that saying that his former captain, as well as the club, have been fully accommodating whenever Gazza has required help.
It has also always been the case that whenever I have needed tickets I have spoken to my skipper Gary Mabbutt and Tottenham have always sorted it out for me, so I want to correct that too.
I want to make sure that Spurs and their fans know that I recognise that they have always been there for me.
