Last season for Bayer Leverkusen Emre Can was a midfielder converted into a left back. This season, Emre Can is a midfielder converted into a centre back on the right side of a back three. You have to think that once he returns to his original position, Liverpool could have a seriously talented midfield general on their hands.
Lucas has been winning some much deserved plaudits this week for the part he's played in Liverpool's resurgence but there's no doubt that the emergence of Emre Can has been equally important. Granted he did give away a fairly needless penalty against Chelsea but if Rodgers can find a proper centre half between now and next season, then Liverpool may have found themselves a near perfect mixture of Alonso and Mascherano come the start of next season.
And just to demonstrate the Alonso-esque side of his game, a pass that should never have been attempted but looks absolutely wonderful in hindsight.
