Yes, we all know the narrative of Roy Keane as a gruff oaf is a bit played out. It's either something he's carefully constructed to try and make us mere mortals afraid of him or one which was constructed for him and he's gone along with because it's easier that way, but allow us one more lazy opportunity to play into that stereotype.
The SWAI Personality of the Year awards took place last night and by the looks of it, everyone enjoyed themselves. Cork City goalkeeper Mark McNulty picked up the goalkeeper of the year award and was suitably pleased, Stephanie Roche continued her coronation as the new doyen of Irish sport and Roy Keane was given the opportunity to trot out his recently re0cultivated beard in all its glory. Doesn't he look happy to be there.
However, in all seriousness, everyone at balls.ie would like to pass on their condolences to Stephen Kenny, who lost his father yesterday morning before going along to the awards and claiming the Personality of the Year award.
Sport: Stephen Kenny's father passed away earlier today. He went to the soccer writers''s awards because he said that's what his dad wanted.

Congratulations to Stephen on a thoroughly deserved award. And while we're here, don't forget to get your votes in for Stephanie Roche ahead of Monday's Puskas Award announcement. Vote here but perhaps have a quick look at our guide on how to vote most effectively first.
