The big news in the football world today is that Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has asked that the club terminate his contract at the end of the current season, a request which will be granted after a press conference was held today where the club confirmed the stories which had earlier emerged in German football publication 'Bild'.
Klopp is one of the best known managers in Europe, and has developed a reputation for getting the best out of his players and making the best of limited transfer funds. His counter-attacking style is also something that many football clubs would love to be able to incorporate, as his teams play with great pace and a relentless desire to drive at the heart of an opponent. With such a high current stock, despite BVB's awful showing in the Bundesliga this season, it's clear that Klopp will have a number of high profile suitors.
He said earlier today that he felt he had taken Dortmund as far as he could, and he also revealed that he won't be taking a break from management and wants to go straight into his next job. With that in mind we ranked his potential landing sports in order of their likelihood to happen.
10 - Bayern Munich
9 - Manchester United
Again, highly unlikely. If Jurgen Klopp had cancelled his contract at the end of last season, then United fans would have been frothing at the mouth in anticipation of Klopp taking the reigns at Old Trafford, but after Louis Van Gaal has come across a tactic that has the team performing at the accepted standard, there is no chance of him leaving anytime soon. Klopp would have to wait around for Van Gaal to leave, and we don't think he's willing to do that.
8 - Napoli
Rafa Benitez seems certain to leave Naples this summer after two moderately successful seasons. Napoli are at a similar level to Dortmund, which makes it less likely that Klopp would want to manage there. The passionate fans would be a plus, but ultimately we expect Jurgen to go bigger.
7 - AC Milan
6 - Arsenal
Some Arsenal fans were calling for Klopp this season during their now annual "Wenger Out!" campaign which normally runs until they hit form in January. While after eight consecutive wins in the Premier League the idea of replacing Wenger will be scoffed at, you can almost guarantee the question will be asked sometime within the next 12 months.
5 - Liverpool
This is another option that wouldn't happen this summer, so Klopp would have to wait and see what becomes available in the new year, but if Brendan Rodgers were to fail to secure Champions League football this season, and then struggle at the start of next season, then the issue would be raised of replacing him. Comparisons have been drawn between Anfield and Dortmund's Westfallenstadion, and the project could tempt the German. Of all the options that aren't going to happen, this may be the most likely.
4 - Real Madrid
3 - Paris Saint Germain
Another club who could just sack their manager for the craic, PSG would be an attractive prospect for Jurgen Klopp if their current owners get tired of Laurent Blanc. Klopp has never had unlimited cash to spend on new recruits, and it would be very interesting to see how he would set up his team if he were to take charge in Paris.
2 - Barcelona
Luis Enrique is simply not liked at FC Barcelona. He's clashed with Messi, he recently clashed with Neymar, and the club's directors having been pretty vocal in their criticism of his decisions this season. It seems inevitable that he will soon be replaced, but will Barca really go with the German? Klopp would love it I'm sure, and we would absolutely love watching Barca training clips that have Messi, Suarez, Neymar etc. interacting with him. This one is interesting for sure.
